I pray to God to send me my one true love. Someone who will travel with me and make new adventures. Someone who will laugh with me even with the silliest of things. Someone who I can share my dreams and help me make it a reality. Someone who will stand by my side even if I am wrong. Someone who will cheer me up to move on whenever I fall. Cliff at the Milieu
by Kent Unabia | 17 September 2016
I have never been to Mercer Bay, although I have walked around different tracks in the Waitakere Ranges and followed the Hilary trail. Mercer Bay was unspoilt; the cliff, the overcast sky, the sea breeze, the crashing of waves against the cliff, it was seamless. Mercer Bay is a hidden gem, probably overshadowed by the famous Piha beach adjacent to this bay.
Suzanne and Herbert, how would I describe them? Quite tranquil…halcyon, couple with a few words. They are quite natural with their affection as well. We experimented on over-the-shoulder shots and follow shots (tracking shots), then filmed them while writing their announcement (save the date) on a black board. The shot was done on a grassy part of a small plateau and the rocky cliff at the milieu. . . Read the full blog here: https://tmblr.co/Z6JKog2CIO0Xn

Rose Land
by Kent Unabia | 12 September 2016
It has been an exciting year for the couple Mia and Michael. They have recently bought a motel in the sunny Bay of Plenty. Michael has always worked in the industry looking after big hotels in Germany. He has moved to New Zealand and is currently managing Bracu Auckland, a fine-dining restaurant nestled amid the olive grove of Simunovich Estate down in Bombay Hills. It has always been his passion to excel in the hospitality industry.
Roselands is a 10-unit motel. It sits in the heart of Tauranga and a stone-throw away from the rose gardens, hence the name (I presumed). Mia and Michael had revamped the place big time, giving it an artistic touch and a fresh new feel. . .

Sweet Tones in the City of Cones
by Demi Luv Diaz | 06 September 2016 This would be our first out of town without our third counterpart, Kent. He unfortunately could not make it as he had to work. Did we mention we are also nurses by profession? Well surpise! We are indeed! ;) Nevertheless, we were blessed to have the company of a talented photographer named Lemuelle aka Lem. He was introduced to us by our good friend and Lem’s cousin, Marc (Yes, Marc our resident vlogger who rose to stardom via our Queenstown vlog series. LOL!). . . We got this Fam
by Kent Unabia | 31 August 2016 We have set out in the morning. It was a nice day for a stroll. Locals are enjoying their sips of coffee with the façade of the beach filled with people and their dogs. Carlene dressed in pink walked out of the car, erect and proud of her bump. We started off with shots towards the beach (what else?) with Rangitoto Island farther in the background. . . Follow the blog here or https://tmblr.co/Z6JKog2BW3q14 |
Sleepless in Queenstown
by Kent Unabia | 19 August 2016
It has been a wonderful experience doing a pre wedding shoot in Queenstown. Kudos to the team for their professionalism and the couple with their unwavering patience and energy to make this all possible. Literally, it was a tiring and sleepless bustle, and it was all worth it.
Last week we left Auckland for this ambitious project. After months of planning, booking flights and accommodation and the unending debate on where to go to for the shoot, everything was set. The four-man team of lightpersecond projects, meticulously packed their equipment, knowing tue baggage allowable for the flight.
We arrived on a beautiful day, bluebird skies. And it looks like it is going to be like this for the next couple of days. We had our timetables and route outlined, however these things never go as planned. We ended up extending the days and sacrificing sleep to make it through. . .

Pokemon
14 August 2016
by Kent Unabia
The day was a little overcast, which adds a little drama and soft lights. Dharling’s eldest son was a bit petulant in the middle of the shoot while the middle child was really eager. This is one of the challenge when photographing kids, you have to get their mood right. I found out that the eldest plays pokemon, so out came my phone and showed off my catch. Nik-minnit (next minute) he is smiling and cooperative with the shoot as well. . . .

Lights, Tunnel, and Action
31 July 2016 | North Head, Devonport
by Demiluv Diaz
It was quite a challenge for both the photographer and model. The tunnel was quite narrow and it was hard to place the lights where they should be. As we all know in photography, lighting is a BIG deal. Tegan also braved the cold weather wearing quite very light clothing. Since it was Tegan’s first time to model, Anand kindly gave her some teaching sessions on posing, face angles and gave her a boost of confidence too. Such a pro Anand!. . .

Janma Dina Ashamsakal
30 July 2016
by Kent Unabia
"If I could go back 20ish years before, I would like to hear from my parents, listen to what they have to say. About me, about their joy and difficulty they went through. I want them to describe how it is expecting a child, what the first year is like. I am certain that their perception of my first birthday will be quite contraire on their perception on me now. I would like to laugh or even cry while they are telling the story." . . .

Cold Feet
24 July 2016 by Kent Unabia
Mike and KC wanted to have a 4-season themed shoot for their pre-wedding video. Gee, we are getting a lot of requests for this style of film (I’m blaming John Prats and Isabel Oli for this). They have decided to shot the first film on winter. It’s the last weekend for the school holidays and the closest winter you get here on the upper half of the North Island, is in Mt Ruapehu. That’s roughly 5 hours from North Shore, Auckland. We better start early then eh? . . .

White Balance Card 14 July 2016 by Kent Unabia
One of the challenges with laminate flooring is that they are heavy. We have very limited options on how the product will pose or stand. We ended laying them on the floor and awkwardly shooting from above. In this case, we have to consider our lights as well, so an extra pair of hands are needed for proper lighting. . . . Cold Autumn. Warm Winter. 8 July 2016 by Kent Unabia
A few weeks back we met Joy and Marco. The resplendent couple recently moved to New Zealand to see what is the buzz of Middle-Earth all about. Seemed on a whim, like deciding to go to the beach on a weekend, they packed their bags and off they went. Now these two had chosen the perfect country as they are getting married onim-not-allowed-to-tell-you-when. New Zealand, ah, where should I start? The picturesque landscape, snow-capped mountains, rich flora and amazing terrains. Plus, the nice people. You know you could literally snowboard then drive for three hours and enjoy the beach on the same day? As what devinsupertramp said during their shoot at Milford “we are literally stopping every two minutes because everywhere you look is absolutely scenic”. . . . . Read the full article here. |
Chicken Soup 06 JUNE 2016
by Kent Unabia
There is an upcoming wedding project to shoot next week. We decided to do something fun and be creative, and to add something interesting to the video. The couple are from overseas and they have decided to tie the knot in the great city of sails, Auckland...why not? Pardon for the pun, it was intended..
Now a good photographer of the team have a brilliant idea. Show the landscape of the city, which is just really the Sky City Tower and the adjacent buildings around it (that's pretty much Auckland to me) at the beginning of the video. And we are not talking about just any panning or tilting shot, or even stills, no! We would like it to be as complicated as a time lapse. Wouldn't be that great? You think so? Well, we realized what we are in for, the morning we set out for the shoot.
Plan! Plan! Plan!, As what the great Enrique Pacheco tells us when doing time-lapses. We have been taking about this project for a while. We did our research, got the right gear, the software. We did our test shots a week before as well, which was a blimm'n failure. Now, as what any good photographers would do to capture the best shot, do it at the right time. Easy...not when its winter!
My alarm goes at 5:30 in the morning, my eyes are fiery and felt like someone had rub chillies on them. This might be our only chance as the weather predicts more rain for the rest of the week. Temperature says 7ºC but feels like a freaking freezer outside. The sky was clear. We set out. Bumping the thermostat until it reads HI instead of the numbers showing the degrees Centigrade, doesn't take long for our noses to start to run. We were set to shoot at the location where we did our test shot, however, a late change of plan made us take the Shelley Beach Road exit. We found ourselves just at the foot of the Harbour bridge. The sun started to shine as its orange rays starts to fill the sky. Silhouettes of the sailboats are visible in the marina. early morning joggers are seen curiously looking around and wondering what we are on about.

Okay, we have to quickly set up. Tripods in place, remotes set, alignments check. We have to decide for camera angles and position and then well just let the camera do its thing. Simple. Yet, we have to stay with our equipment (which cost me my left kidney). When will this torment end? Soon our battles with the morning chill was brushed as the dawn breaks. The view was spectacular, seeing the city sky slowly opens its dark blanket of the night and welcoming different palettes of colors unfolding the new day. I realized this happens everyday, but it has been awhile since I stopped and watched the day unfolding. Truly a simple and common anomaly that awed me and (speaking in behalf) the team.
Kudos Jeff for spearheading the project. Now, you might need some chicken soup.

An Angel Sent from Heaven"
-Kent Unabia
It was the last day of Autumn (southern hemisphere). There was a chill in the morning air, the sun hasn't showed for a couple of weeks as well.
We met Ella. She was quiet and curious. She has a sweet smile and still a little shy. Rochelle (mum) loves to bake cakes and pastries. It wouldn't be a surprise if the photo shoot will involve lollies and sweets. Her brother, Coco, came with us for the moment or rather, he can't wait to try the jungle gym and the swings. Daddy Kirk and grand papa went as well.

Daddy Kirk and grand papa went as well.
We set out to a nearby park, Normanton Reserve, Glenfield. Few families were around. Only 4 kids in the area and they are playing basketball, hence, they are not on the way of the shoot. This was perfect. It was about 10 in the morning. The sun has shown its puissant glow and our lighting is a bit harsh. This has become a big challenge for us. To create the best shot, we have to make use of the shade, the sun's rays flowing through the tree branches and leaves, giving us a soft autumn feel.
The next dilemma, which in general, is a big challenge for most photographers, having a very young model. It did not take long for Ella to warm up to us, however getting her to pose and smile on the camera is a completely different thing. Ever supportive parents came to the rescue. Oh boy we were ready for this shoot. We brought along with us a lot of plush toys and don't ever forget the bubbles. That tiny spherical body of gas have done wonders for our shoot, especially for the young ones, and hasn't failed so far.
Now we got Ella sitting in a morsel of dried autumn leaves. Knowing that it has been raining the whole weak, didn't take long for her to feel yuck!
Happy 1st birthday Ella! It was an absolute fun having little Ella as a model on a cold and Sunny Friday morning. It was supposed to be a cake smash under the sun but the wind was just cold that it froze the cake. Good thing that Ella was in a good mood and got the energy to play around a bit so we managed to get some angelic shots of her. Here's some shots from the session.
